Blackberry is one of the most loved phones among corporates as it has several benefits that other handset manufacturers cannot even think of. Some such features includes a fab hard keyboard, push mail service that instantaneously pushes mails to your mobile inbox the very next second its sent to you. Blackberry Bold 9700

Blackberry released its newer version of bold 9700 on November 2009 after a year of its release of previous version of Bold 9000 was released on May 2008.

Comparing it with Bold 9000

  • No much changes in the dimensions and the connectivity like 2G and 3G and Wi-fi
  • The camera is upgraded to 3.15MP with image stabilization in 9700. LED flash remains the same.
  • Still secondary camera for video calling is absent in 9700 too.
  • RAM is upgraded to 256MB in 9700 from 128MB but inbuilt memory is reduced to 256MB from 1GB which was in 9000.
  • OS is upgraded to 5.0 from 4.6 and battery capacity is same with 1500mAh but standby time is increased with the OS upgrade.
  • Weighs 122g which is lesser than Bold 9000 which was 133g
  • Trackball is replaced with touch sensitive track pad in 9700.
  • No much change in the audio quality.

Features:

  • 480 x 360 pixel screen, 2.44 inches TFT 65K resolution.
  • Full QWERTY keyboard with well spaced keys which is comfortable for the one with bigger fingers.
  • 2G GSM and 3G HSDPA connection
  • Good battery life with 408h of standby and 6h of Talk time
  • 3.15MP auto focus camera with image stabilization and LED flash.
  • WI-FI and A-GPS with blackberry maps
  • 624 MHz CPU, 256 MB RAM
  • The package has 2GB micro SD card, Leather pouch, Charger with three different connectors.
  • Smart dial is great advantage for dialing numbers with just typing name to search numbers from home screen.
  • Better Music player with Equalizer and music search features.
  • Great video player with Divx and Xvid support with the normal WMV and 3GP.
  • Great web browser with the track pad navigation than any other QWERTY non touch phones.

Disadvantages:

  • No secondary camera for video calling.
  • No Accelerometer and Compass.
  • No FM radio.
  • The camera features are less and below par contrasts.
  • No TV out.
  • No currently playing music on Home Screen.

Verdict:

There is a tough competition with Nokia E72 and Blackberry Bold. E72 is also cheaper than the Bold 9700. There can be some comparison in the features but of you are a Blackberry user and wanted to upgrade your phone then go for it.

Blackberry Storm 2 9520

Blackberry released its new touch screen phone Storm 2 (9520) on November 2009 after a year of its Storm 9500 on November 2008. It had few changes and upgrades.

Comparing it with 9500

  • 9520 comes with HSUPA, EV-DO RevA 3.1Mbps and WI-FI connectivity which was absent in 9500
  • The dimension remains the same but new Storm 2 weighs 160g which is 5g heavier than the older one.
  • The Bluetooth version is upgraded to 2.1.
  • The camera remains the same.
  • The battery capacity is same with 1400mAh but standby and talk time is less when compared to previous version.

Features:

  • 360 x 480 pixels resolution , 3.25” TFT capacitive touch screen, 65K colors
  • Accelerometer sensor for auto rotate.
  • 3.15MP camera  with Auto focus, Geo-tagging and image stabilization
  • GPS with A-GPS support and Blackberry maps.
  • WI-FI and 256MB Flash memory , 2GB inbuilt memory (Expandable with Micro SD up to 32GB)
  • Full QWERTY in both portrait and landscape mode.
  • The connectivity with WI-FI is and EV-DO is good.
  • Stereo Bluetooth (A2DP/AVCRP)
  • Call quality is good than old Storm.

Disadvantages:

  • Battery life of just 270h standby and 5 and half hrs talk time.
  • Inbuilt Browser is very bad when comparing it to the other touch screen phones.
  • Does not support Divx/ Xvid video playback.

Verdict:

Many changes have been made in Storm 2 and these are all great. The only disadvantage is Browser which can be replaced by opera browser by downloading it. The battery life could have been better. Overall it is good. If you are a Blackberry user and want to buy touch screen phone from Blackberry go for it.
