So, you have got yourself a brand new, shiny looking iMac or MacBook/Pro/Air, now you don’t want it to go away from your eye sight. Yes, I know the feeling, so what can we do, to make it secure and that can remain safe from spying eyes. Ya, most of you will be thinking of going for cable lock option, which is very common, but recommended. Now, what can you do more to make it more secure and safe. Here comes Motion Detection.
Application
Periscope is a Motion Detection software from Freeverse, it has a very simple UI and is to the point. The software has two column screen, one shows the setting section and other the Live Cam feed. It is very easy to setup and has quite a bit customization options, you can use your inbuilt iSight camera or an external web-cam, you can control it via Apple Remote, set timer and store it on your hard disk or mail the snaps or even upload via FTP automatically.

You can even choose the quality of the image, it can also upload the snap to flickr. You can use to have Time Stamp, Image Overlays and Text labels on the snaps.
Missing Files
Though there are lot of pro’s, but some may think the cons can over do the pro’s. Like the App can only take snaps, no videos. The meaning of motion detection means monitoring without the knowledge of attacker, but the App can be easily noticed by the attacker, as when it opens, it remains in Dock and even after boot up, you need to tell it to monitor, which is bad.
The App is also not quite lite on system, it takes quite amount of memory.
Asides
The App is overall ok, it not quite recommended for extensive use, normal users can give it a try. The App is nearly about $25 and it even has a demo version, which can be used for 60 days. Give the demo a try before going for the App. Other alternatives including iAlertU(free) and EvoCam etc.

I am trying this app out right now, since yesterday. I like it except the image quality. The images are terrible quality (pixelated), even when it is set to highest. Taking videos when motion detected would be cool too. My goal is just to snap good quality images/videos when motion detected. Other than that it has cool features and options. I hope the developer adds these simple features next time.
